When I started my photography business in 2012 I had no idea what I was doing and to be completely honest…I was a mess! I kept client information in paper file folders with sticky notes and printed copies of email messages. It was the farthest thing from efficient.
In 2014 I attended a photography conference that would change my business in SO many ways, but one of them was introducing me to the world of Client Management Systems – and more specifically Honeybook.
For the last 9 years, Honeybook has been the backbone of my photography business. It’s the ONE platform that my business can’t live without. But I know that while I love Honeybook, there are plenty of other programs out there doing similar things.
Today, we’re diving into a comparison between two top contenders in the market: HoneyBook and Dubsado. While I have been with Honeybook for almost a decade, I have also explored other platforms as a way of making sure that I am not missing out on something else…and to ensure I can recommend the best platform for my clients.

When I was on the hunt for the perfect cleint management tool, I considered various features that would make my life easier. HoneyBook immediately stood out with its free template setup, supported by their amazing concierge team that guided me through the initial setup. The Smart Files template gallery and Zapier Integrations were icing on the cake, allowing me to customize the platform to suit my specific needs.
As I explored Dubsado, I found that they had similar features, but they didn’t offer the same level of personalized assistance as HoneyBook’s concierge team. While both platforms had their merits, HoneyBook’s seamless onboarding experience and the versatility of its template gallery made it my top choice.
One thing that sets HoneyBook apart is its user-friendly interface. The Project Pipeline keeps everything organized, and the Client Portal provides a professional and easy way to communicate with clients. Streamlined booking through contracts and invoices, coupled with the vast Template Library, saves me time and energy on repetitive tasks. Plus, having access to the Mobile App ensures I can manage my business on the go.
Honey has also introduced their AI response tool which analyzes a client inquiry to curate the perfect response to help boost your booking rate.
Although Dubsado also offers a user-friendly experience, I found HoneyBook’s Automations to be more robust and customizable, making my clientflow smoother and more efficient.
At the end of the day, the client experience is what matters most. HoneyBook shines in this area with its array of features, including Automations, Scheduler, Interactive Smart Files, Online Signatures, and Automated Payments. Everything comes together to create a seamless and professional experience for my clients, which they appreciate and remember.
Dubsado, too, offers a good client experience, but it didn’t match the level of automation and integration that HoneyBook provides. The ability to send automated payment reminders, especially, has significantly reduced late payments for me.
In summary, both HoneyBook and Dubsado offer valuable features, but HoneyBook won me over with its exceptional client management capabilities and the ease of use it provides. While Dubsado has its strengths, HoneyBook’s personal touch, seamless automation, and overall client experience made it the clear winner for my business.
