MORE ABOUT ME
Struggling to grow your business during nap times, school lines, seeking balance? Been there, ready to guide you from survival to success!
(AI brand photography vs real photos: honest review from a professional photographer)
If you’ve spent more than five minutes online lately, you’ve probably seen them…Ai generated brand photos.
Dreamy coffee shop moments.
Flawless lighting.
Zero scheduling. Zero outfit changes. Zero awkward posing.
All created by a machine.
And as a photographer and marketing coach, I had the same thought you probably did:
“Okay…but is this actually good…or just good enough?”
So I decided to test it for myself.
I uploaded a few of my own photos, generated a full set of AI brand images, and used them like I would a real brand session.
And I have thoughts…so let’s talk about it!
Because while AI brand photos are impressive…they’re also not the full story.
Let’s start with some actual photos of me from past brand sessions with an actual photographer for comparison…

Let’s just say it upfront – AI did not disappoint on first glance.
The variety alone was enough to make any business owner do a double take:
It felt like I had just booked a full-day brand shoot…without leaving my house.
And from a marketing standpoint?
That kind of convenience is very tempting.
These are some of the Ai generated images it gave me:

Let’s give credit where it’s due – AI has some serious strengths.
You can create multiple “scenes” without:
For busy business owners, that’s a huge win.
No photographer, no studio rental, no travel time.
If someone is just starting out and needs something to show up online, this can feel like a lifeline.
No waiting weeks for a gallery.
AI is basically like: “Oh you wanted 20 photos? Here you go…in 2 minutes.”
Because once the novelty wore off, I started noticing something.
Actually…a few things.

This was the biggest one.
The photos were technically accurate. Same hair. Same face. Same general vibe. But something felt slightly off.
Almost like:
And as a photographer, I couldn’t ignore that.
Because the magic of a real photo?
It’s not perfection.
It’s connection.
AI can mimic a smile.
It can recreate body language.
But it can’t capture:
Those are the things that make people feel something when they see your photos.
And that’s what builds trust.
Here’s the part I didn’t expect to care about—but I did.
A real brand photo shoot isn’t just about the final images.
It’s about:
AI gives you the result…
…but it completely skips the experience.
And for your clients?
That experience is everything.
Short answer? No.
Long answer? Also no – but it will change how we use photography in our businesses.
AI is a tool. A really powerful one.
But it’s not a replacement for:
And if anything, it highlights what makes real photography so valuable.
Because when everything online starts to look “perfect”…
Authenticity becomes your biggest advantage.
Would I use AI brand photos?
Maybe… but only if it’s done with a specific intention in mind.
Here’s where I think they actually make sense:
But would I replace my real brand photos with AI? Not a chance.
Because my audience doesn’t just need to see me.
They need to trust me.
And trust isn’t built on perfect images.
It’s built on real ones.
If you’re a photographer feeling a little side-eye about AI right now…
This is your reminder: Your value was never just the photo.
It’s:
AI can’t replicate that.
And honestly? It doesn’t need to, because there is room for both.
Trying AI brand photos was fun. Impressive, even.
But it also made one thing crystal clear:
The reason people invest in photography isn’t convenience. It’s connection.
So no, AI isn’t taking over your business.
But it is a reminder to lean into the one thing it can’t compete with: Being human.
AI brand photos can be a helpful option for small business owners who need quick, affordable visuals for their website or social media. They’re especially useful for filling content gaps or getting started when you don’t yet have professional photos. However, they work best as a supplement—not a replacement—for real brand photography that captures your personality and builds trust with your audience.
No—AI cannot fully replace professional brand photography. While AI can generate realistic images, it lacks the ability to capture genuine emotion, connection, and real-life interaction. Professional photographers provide guidance, creative direction, and an experience that helps clients feel confident and seen, which translates into more authentic and impactful images.
Pros:
Cons:
AI is a great tool—but it doesn’t replace the human element of photography.
AI headshots can work for basic business needs like profile photos, placeholders, or low-stakes content. However, for branding, marketing, and building a personal connection with your audience, professional headshots are still the better choice because they reflect your true personality and brand.
AI brand photos offer speed and convenience, while a real photoshoot offers depth and connection. A professional photoshoot includes:
AI gives you images. A real photoshoot gives you images and impact.
Photographers don’t need to panic—but they do need to adapt. AI is changing the industry, but it also highlights what makes professional photography valuable: human connection, creativity, and real storytelling. Photographers who lean into those strengths will continue to stand out.
Use AI photos for:
Use professional photos for:
Clients may not always recognize AI images immediately, but over time, overly polished or generic visuals can reduce trust. Audiences are becoming more aware of AI, and authenticity is becoming more important than ever. Real photos help build credibility and emotional connection.
