MORE ABOUT ME
Struggling to grow your business during nap times, school lines, seeking balance? Been there, ready to guide you from survival to success!
There’s a certain kind of overwhelm that doesn’t come from being busy. It comes from feeling like no matter how much you do…it’s never enough.
Your to-do list keeps growing.
Your ideas feel scattered.
You’re trying to keep up with marketing, clients, content, emails, editing, life…
And somehow, you still feel behind.
If your business has felt overwhelming lately, I want you to hear this first:
You’re not doing it wrong.
You’re probably just doing too much.
A few weeks ago, I took a step back from my podcast. Not a dramatic “I’m quitting everything” moment. Just a quiet pause. Because things felt…full. Not in a good, thriving way. In a stretched-too-thin, constantly-switching-tabs kind of way. And in that space, I had a realization:
I didn’t need more strategies.
I needed less noise.
Most of us assume overwhelm comes from a lack of time.
If we just had:
…then everything would feel manageable.
But that’s usually not the problem.
More often, overwhelm comes from complexity.
Too many platforms.
Too many ideas.
Too many “shoulds.”
Too many strategies happening at the same time.
You’re not behind because you’re not working hard enough.
You’re overwhelmed because your business has too many moving parts.
This year, instead of setting a long list of goals, I chose a word: Simplify.
Not because I want to do less for the sake of doing less. But because I want to do fewer things—with more intention.
Simplifying doesn’t mean shrinking your business. It means removing what’s unnecessary so what matters can actually work.
Over time, it’s easy to layer more and more onto your business without even realizing it.
You start on one platform…then add another.
You create one offer…then feel like you need three more.
You learn one strategy… then immediately move on to the next.
Before long, your business isn’t complicated because it has to be. It’s complicated because everything has been added…and nothing has been removed. And when everything feels important, nothing feels clear.
If your business feels like too much right now, you don’t need a complete overhaul. You need a reset.
Start here.
The instinct when you feel overwhelmed is to do more.
More planning.
More researching.
More reorganizing.
But clarity doesn’t come from frantic action. It comes from space.
Give yourself permission to pause before you try to solve anything.
Instead of trying to fix everything, ask:
Where are my inquiries actually coming from?
Is it referrals? Google searches? Email? One specific platform?
That’s your starting point. Not everything deserves your energy.
This is the part most people skip.
We’re so used to adding things…but rarely do we remove them.
What could you pause right now? What could you simplify? What could you stop doing completely?
Letting go isn’t failure. It’s focus.
Before the strategies…before the overwhelm… here was a reason you started your business.
Maybe it was:
Somewhere along the way, that gets buried under tasks and expectations.
Simplifying your business is really about reconnecting with that original reason—and building around it again.
This is the part that might surprise you:
You probably don’t need a new strategy.
You don’t need to start over.
You don’t need to add more.
You just need to simplify what you’re already doing.
Focus on fewer platforms. Clearer messaging. More consistent (but smaller) actions.
Because when your business is simpler, it becomes easier to maintain.
And when it’s easier to maintain, it actually grows.
Let your business support your life again

🎧 What to Do When Your Business Feels Overwhelming
Why does my photography business feel so overwhelming?
Most of the time, it’s not because you’re doing something wrong—it’s because you’re doing too much. Trying to be on multiple platforms, offer too many services, and follow every marketing strategy at once can quickly lead to overwhelm. Simplifying your focus is often the fastest way to feel back in control.
How can I simplify my photography business?
Start by identifying what’s actually working. Where are your inquiries coming from? Focus on that first. Then look at what you can remove or pause—extra platforms, unnecessary tasks, or offers that aren’t bringing results. Simplifying isn’t about doing less overall, it’s about doing the right things consistently.
What should I focus on when I feel behind in my business?
When you feel behind, resist the urge to do everything at once. Instead, focus on one area that directly leads to bookings—like following up with inquiries, updating your website messaging, or reaching out to past clients. Small, focused actions will move your business forward faster than trying to fix everything.
Is it normal to feel overwhelmed as a photographer or small business owner?
Yes, completely. Running a photography business requires wearing a lot of hats—photographer, marketer, editor, business owner. Feeling overwhelmed usually means it’s time to simplify your systems and refocus your priorities, not that you’re failing.
Do I need a new marketing strategy if I feel overwhelmed?
Probably not. Most photographers don’t need a new strategy—they need a simpler one. Instead of adding more, focus on refining what you’re already doing and making it more consistent and sustainable.
